Our brand

Lunas comes from a magical region, a special place close to the Pacific Ocean. The nights in the Ica Valley are foggy, and the strong moonlight breaks its way through to the pisco vines and illuminates them to the rhythm of the tides.

Legend has it that Mama Quilla, guardian of the night and festivities, watches over the balance of natural forces that nourish the pisco vines. The Icas sun, the salty sea breeze, the desert-like earth, the humidity of the nights and the bright moonlight in rhythm with the tides all give the pisco vines their distinctive character.

“150 years of pisco and wine production”

Pisco Lunas is produced at the traditional and award-winning Bodega Sotelo in Ica, in the heart of the original Pisco region. Bodega Sotelo is a winery that has been involved in the production of pisco for six generations. It upholds the pisco tradition and works hand in hand with innovative technologies, resulting in an all-round superior drink. The vineyards are in one of the main producing areas, in San Juan Bautista, in Quilloay village. The location plays a major role. It is characterised by its high-quality soil and its perfect desert climate.

Julio Sotelo Alca is the head at Bodega Sotelo and belongs to the 6th generation of pisco producers. He started as a chemical engineer and developed his career as an oenologist. Today he runs Bodega Sotelo and is the master distiller of every product including our pisco.

The Production

The production starts early every year with “La Vendimia” – an annual festival. Between February and March, the vines are harvested.
Immediately after the harvest, our five types of vines are proportionally mixed. The pressing of the grapes follows, obtaining the precious grape must.
The grape must then passes to the fermentation tanks for a period of five to twenty days, in which the sugars in the must are transformed into alcohol by the action of the yeasts, thus obtaining the wine.
The wine obtained is distilled in a French copper pot still. Only the heart will be used afterwards.
The pisco obtained is placed in stainless steel tanks for a minimum period of three months to one year – allowing it to reach maturity.
After this period, the pisco is filtered and then packaged in our classic glass bottles ready for shipping to Europe.
Finally, Lunas is distributed and presented to the consumer, where he or she can enjoy its high quality by tasting it pure and in every cocktail. Salud!
